South Dakota September Goose Hunts

South Dakota offers an early Canada goose season that runs the entire month of September. Unlike the general waterfowl season, non-residents are able to purchase this license over the counter. The combination of good local populations and pushes of molt migrators provides great hunting during this season.

Optional afternoon dove/pigeon hunt

$50/hunter/day

Afternoon dove/pigeon hunts are available to be added on to your hunt.  This is a great way to extend your hunt day as our September goose hunts are a morning only hunt. These hunts take place in small grain fields and over water holes and typically provide fun and fast action as birds decoy into the spinners. September Lodging and Meals

After your hunt enjoy a relaxing stay at the lodge! 

  • Home cooked lunch and supper provided

What You Need

Licenses

Non-residents are required to have a September Goose License as well as a Migratory Bird Certificate and Federal Duck Stamp


Residents are required to have a valid Small Game  License or Combination License as well as a Migratory Bird Certificate and Federal Duck Stamp

Weather Appropriate Clothing

September weather in South Dakota can vary from being hot to mild so having clothing fit to keep you comfortable in the field is a must. Keep an eye on the weather leading up to your hunt and pack accordingly. 

Shotgun Shells

Non-toxic ammunition is legally required. We recommend 3" or 3.5" shells and 2 shot, 1 shot, or BB. We also recommend bringing 2-3 boxes of shells for each day of your hunt.

Bird Cleaning

Our clients are responsible for cleaning their own birds. We offer a bird cleaning room as well as a chest freezer for bird storage during your hunt. Birds are legally required to have a fully feathered wing or head attached for transport until the bird arrives at the hunters place of residence. We recommend that you bring knives, 2 gallon ziplock bags, and a large cooler(s) for transporting the birds home.

  • No dogs allowed unless you have a private field
  • 50% non-refundable deposit due at time of booking
